I help people understand their retirement readiness
For over a decade, I’ve guided Hong Kong professionals through the complexity of MPF options, pension contributions, and long-term financial planning. My mission is straightforward: make retirement planning less confusing and more achievable.
How I got here
Back in 2010, I started working as a financial analyst at one of Hong Kong’s major banks. I was fresh out of university with a Finance degree and honestly thought I’d understand how pension systems worked — turns out I was wrong. The complexity of MPF regulations, fund options, and contribution mechanics wasn’t something they taught clearly in textbooks.
I spent my first two years at the bank basically learning on the job, asking questions that probably annoyed my supervisors. But that’s where my real education happened. I sat through client meetings, studied the regulatory documents, and started seeing patterns in what confused people most. People weren’t lacking intelligence — they were drowning in jargon.
After seven years in banking, I made a shift. In 2017, I left to start my own financial advisory practice focused specifically on retirement planning. No corporate constraints, no pushing products that didn’t fit. Just straightforward advice for mid-career professionals and business owners who wanted clarity on their retirement prospects.
That’s when things changed. In 2019, I published a comprehensive guide on MPF contribution strategies that got shared widely across Hong Kong’s financial community. It wasn’t fancy — just honest breakdowns of how different contribution levels compound over 30 years, what the fund options actually meant, and why your choices in your 30s matter more than most people realize.
I’ve been at Retire Well Limited since 2021, and I’m still doing what I started: helping people decode retirement planning so they can actually make confident decisions about their financial future. I’ve worked with over 3,000 individuals now, and I can tell you — most people aren’t looking for perfection. They’re looking for clarity and a plan that actually works for their life.
Areas of specialization
These aren’t just topics I’ve studied — they’re areas where I’ve helped real people make better financial decisions for their future.
MPF Fund Selection
Breaking down the differences between equity, balanced, and conservative funds. Understanding what “default fund” actually means and whether it’s right for you. Choosing between the dozens of options without getting overwhelmed.
Contribution Strategy
How much should you contribute? When should you increase contributions? What about voluntary contributions and their tax implications? I help you structure contributions for maximum long-term benefit.
Retirement Readiness
Will your savings actually be enough? We look at your current trajectory, adjust for inflation, factor in life expectancy, and create realistic scenarios for what your retirement income will look like.
Long-Term Savings Planning
Beyond MPF. We discuss supplementary retirement schemes, voluntary savings, insurance products, and how they all fit together in a comprehensive retirement plan.
Regulatory Navigation
The rules around MPF, contribution caps, withdrawal conditions, and tax treatment can be dense. I translate the regulations into practical guidance you can actually act on.
Financial Decision-Making
Life changes. Job changes. Market conditions shift. I help you make informed adjustments to your retirement plan at each life stage without second-guessing yourself.
My approach to retirement planning
Evidence, not assumptions
I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Your retirement readiness depends on your specific circumstances — your current savings, your income trajectory, your life expectancy expectations, your risk tolerance. That’s why I always start with data and ask detailed questions before recommending anything.
Clarity over complexity
The financial industry loves jargon. I don’t. When I explain MPF fund strategies or contribution mechanics, you’ll understand the actual impact on your money. No unnecessary technical terms. No making things sound more complicated than they are.
Long-term perspective
Retirement planning isn’t about beating the market next quarter. It’s about consistent, sustainable growth over 30+ years. We focus on decisions that compound positively over decades, not short-term gains or panic reactions to market swings.
Practical recommendations
I understand that life is messy. Maybe you can’t max out voluntary contributions right now. Maybe you need to adjust your fund allocation because your risk tolerance changed. That’s fine. We work with your actual situation, not an idealized version of it.
